(WWJ) -- A local filmmaker is doing his part in the fight against cancer.

A three-hour documentary titled "Those On The Front Lines Of Cancer" by Novi filmmaker Keith Famie is set to air in two parts on PBS in Detroit later in October, but the public is invited to get a sneak peak of the film at a local movie theater this week. A 90-minute cut of the film will be showed at Emagine Theater in Royal Oak on Wednesday, as Famie and the film's host, WOMC's morning host JoAnne Purtan, will speak at the event.

The film covers a wide variety of topics, including the latest research, cancer etiquette, and local non-profits helping families affected by the disease.

"Cancer is very lonely," Famie told WWJ. "While you can have a tremendous amount of family support and love and things of that nature, you really are on a journey that's, in so many ways, unknown."

The first hour of the documentary will air on PBS at 9 p.m. on Oct. 10, while the second two hours will be featured at the same time on Oct. 17.

"This film will explore nationally recognized medical professionals in the trenches searching for a cure or new progressive treatments as well as looking at natural sources to beating this devastating disease," according to the event's webpage. "An in-depth look will be taken as to how lifestyle changes and discipline can affect what might otherwise be a genetic roll of the dice."

The event has a limited number of tickets available for $10. The screening is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
