(WWJ) AAA Michigan says gas prices are at their lowest levels since 2016.
The Dearborn Auto club says prices dropped 8 cents last week -- to a statewide average of 2.09 a gallon -- that's 28 cents a gallon less than a month ago, and 54 cents less than this time last year.
In metro Detroit, the average price is 2.04 a gallon -- that's about 3 cents less than a week ago, and 60 cents less than this time last year.
These prices are a turnaround from early October, when gas briefly topped $2.90 per gallon nationwide. Americans are saving about $225 million daily on gas as a result of the lowered prices since then, according to USA Today.
Why are prices so low? A sharp decline in oil prices over the last few months has sparked the decline.
