LIVONIA (WWJ) - Police say road conditions appear to be a factor in a deadly New Year's Day crash on I-96.

The crash happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday along westbound I-96 just west of Newburgh Road.

Police say 36-year old Christopher Wilfong, of Ann Arbor, was traveling on the freeway when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a median wall. Roads were wet and slick at the time.

The freeway was closed for several hours while investigators worked the scene, but has since reopened to traffic.

The crash remains under investigation.
