(WWJ) The worst nightmare for fans of being spooked for entertainment is actual violence breaking out in a haunted house ... And police say that's exactly what happened at Erebus in Pontiac, one of the region's most popular Halloween attractions.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office says that at about 12:31 a.m. on Sunday a 29-year-old Detroit man was shot and killed in the parking lot outside the haunted house.

The alleged motive? The man who opened fire was upset because he believed the man and his girlfriend cut in line to enter the Halloween attraction.

Police said the man and his girlfriend were standing in line behind the suspected shooter, waiting to enter the haunted house, when he accused the victim of attempting to cut in line ahead of him.

They exchanged angry words.

The victim told his girlfriend he was going to his vehicle, police say, and the suspect also walked to the parking lot.

Shots rang out.

A blue sedan quickly flee the scene after the victim was shot in the neck, chest and side. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Department provided the above photo of the suspect, whom they describe as a thin Black man standing about 6 feet tall with a medium complexion. He was wearing an orange hooded sweatshirt and jeans.
