(WWJ) With 100% of precincts reporting, Mary Chrzanowski beat Jodi Switalski in the Democratic primary for Macomb County prosecutor, WWJ's Charlie Langton reported.

The Macomb Daily reported Chrzanowski had been in second place early in the counting Tuesday but over took Switalski with about one-third of the vote in around midnight. "She had a lead of 33.8 percent to 32.2 percent at about 3 a.m., with 67.1 percent of the vote reported to the county Elections Division. Switalski is a former district judge in Oakland County and former assistant Macomb prosecutor," the Daily reported.

Chrzanowski was a tough judge known around the courthouse as "Scary Mary" when she served in Macomb County Circuit Court.

Saima Khalil, believed to be the first Muslim to run for prosecutor in Michigan, placed third, ahead of former State Bar president Tom Rombach, by a margin of 18 percent to 10.9 percent,  with 67.1 percent of the vote counted. In the last spot was Eva Tkacyk with 5.1 percent.

While prosecutor's races are generally under the radar, this one was closely watched after last March’s resignation of former prosecutor Eric Smith amid criminal corruption charges.

With Smith out of his longtime seat, Chrzanowski will face Pete Lucido in the November election. Lucido was under fire for sexism and sexual harassment earlier this year when several, including a legislator and a reporter, came forward with complaints about things he had allegedly said to them. He was stripped of a committee chairmanship and ordered to undergo training Thursday after the state Senate concluded the allegations were credible.
