LINCOLN PARK, Mich. (WWJ) -- A Michigan State Police trooper is expected to make a full recovery after a scare during a traffic stop on Wednesday.
First Lt. Mike Shaw says troopers from the Metro South post were conducting a traffic stop in Lincoln Park Wednesday afternoon on a possible narcotics suspect.
One of the troopers began to feel lightheaded, nauseious and unsteady on his feet after searching a suspect for narcotics. His partned noticed his behavior and jumped into action.
State police said the second trooper realized it was a possible fentanyl or cocaine overdose and administered two doses of Narcan from the kit in his patrol car. Fentanyl is known to cause reactions to those who come into close contact with it.
The trooper was transported by EMS to a local hospital, where officials say he is expected to be fine.
"It's never just routine for your troopers out there," Michigan State Police said in a tweet.
