PONTIAC, Mich. (WWJ) -- A man is in stable condition and the person who shot him is in the Oakland County Jail after a drug deal got heated in Pontiac on Sunday.
Oakland County Sheriff's deputies responded to the emergency room at McLaren-Oakland Hospital late Sunday night and met with a victim who had been shot earlier in the night.
The victim told police his friends had contacted the shooting suspect via Facebook to sell him marijuana and the victim agreed to ride along with his friends for the deal. When they arrived to the scene in the 300 block of Hopkins Avenue, the would-be buyer got in their car and pulled out a handgun.
The suspect -- a 26-year-old Pontiac man -- demanded the marijuana and everyone's money. The victim says he attempted to protect himself and engaged in a struggle with the suspect. The weapon discharged, striking him in the left thigh, and the suspect hopped out of the car and fled to a nearby apartment building.
After speaking with the victim, deputies responded to the apartment building and were able to locate the suspect's residence. Authorities knocked on the door and demanded him to come out, but the suspect was non-compliant. That's when deputies made a request for the Oakland County SWAT Team.
When SWAT showed up to the scene, the suspect finally surrendered to authorities without incident. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Pontiac substation to speak with detectives. He has been lodged at the Oakland County Jail, pending the issuance of the criminal charges, as the investigation continues.
The victim was listed in stable condition, while police did not report any injuries to the other three victims who were at the scene. The sheriff's office said four victims were in the vehicle that was robbed -- a 71-year-old Independence Township man; two men from Pontiac, ages 26 and 19; and an 18-year-old woman from Oxford Township -- but did not specify which victim was shot.
