(WWJ) An arrest has been made in the brutal cold case murder of a mentally challenged mother and daughter in Clinton Township.
Police described a gruesome scene at the Parkway Village Apartments in July of 2013, when Tina Geiger and her 11-year-old daughter Kristina "Krissy" Geiger were discovered with their throats slashed.
Sources tell WWJ Newsradio 950 that detectives have found a match to a bloody hand print on the wall of the apartment, on Grange Street, near 16 Mile Rd. and Harper Ave., and it's that evidence that led to the arrest.
The bodies were first discovered by an apartment manager who was asked to check on the Giegers. Neighbors, who said the duo walked to a nearby 7-Eleven every day, said they became concerned after not seeing the pair for several days. There were no signs of forced entry, police said, which led investigators to believe the victims knew their killer.
A man who was arrested shortly after the murders was charged with lying to police, but the murders had remained unsolved.
It's not clear when the suspect will be charged. The suspect's name has not yet been released, pending an arraignment.
