JACKSON, Mich. (WWJ) -- Police were called to the scene of a barricaded gunman in Jackson Thursay night.

Police say they were called to a home in the area of Bloomfield Boulevard and First Street around 4:30 p.m. Thursday after reports that a man and woman were fighting. Shortly after police arrived, the armed man fired multiple shots at police.

According to a report from MLive, Jackson police say they determined the couple was not fighting and now believe the subject inside the house called in a false report to get police to the area.

A special response team arrived at around 6:15 p.m. and has been attempting to get the man to surrender. The man is believed to be the only person inside the house and say he has been seen moving around the house since the time shots were first fired. As of 9 p.m., the gunman was still inside the house.

Police have established a large peremiter around the house and are advising the public to avoid the area and should not cross police tape or enter areas blocked off by emergency response vehicles.

Police had not reported any injuries at the scene.
