(WWJ) Manslaughter charges have been filed against a 17-year-old Eastpointe man accused of killing his 17-year-old girlfriend.
The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office on Friday authorized a four-count felony warrant for Rayquan Taylor in the fatal shooting of Kira Seymour of Roseville.
The teen mother was found shot to death in an Eastpiointe home on Rein Avenue Wednesday, with her 6-month-old daughter nearby.
Police said Seymour was visiting Taylor when shots were fired. Other circumstances leading up the the shooting are still unclear.
The baby was unharmed. Taylor, who was arrested at the scene, was arraigned Friday afternoon via video in the 38th District Court Eastpointe.
He is charged with the following:
- One count of Homicide – Manslaughter, a 15-year felony)
- One count of Homicide – Manslaughter – Death by Weapon Aimed with Intent But Without Malice, a 15-year felony)
- Two counts of Weapons – Felony Firearm, a 2-year felony
Bond was set at $500,000 cash or surety and Taylor's next court date was set for Oct. 20.
Seymour, who was a Senior at Roseille High School. is being remembered as a "wonderful spirit" and for her smile and laugh.
A friend, April Pal, wrote on Facebook: "I honestly can't wrap my head around this.. I'm at a loss of words. It still feels so unreal. Why you ? You did not deserve this at all, you had so much life to live, we had so many more memories to make, a beautiful baby that now has to grow up without her mother. But don't worry because we're all going to help take care of Laylah and be there for your family as much as possible, I promise she will be great. And I promise we will all make it known when she grows up how much you loved her, how you could instantly light the room up and make everybody laugh endlessly. Man I'm going to miss that contagious laugh so much.
