DETROIT (WWJ) -  Authorities say a chain reaction crash that sent four people to the hospital was caused by a suspected drunk driver.

The crash happened just after 9:30 p.m. Monday in the area of Van Dyke and Merkel, north of I-94 on Detroit's east side.

According to police, a 39-year-old man was driving a 2019 Dodge Charger when he rear ended a 2011 Lincoln, driven by a 41-year-old woman with a 14-year-old female passenger. The Lincoln then struck a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by a 30-year-old man with a 28-year-old female passenger.

All four victims were transported to area hospitals in stable condition.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and transported to the Detroit Detention Center on charges of operating while intoxicated.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has any other information is asked to contact the Detroit Police Department's Eleventh Squad at 313-596-1140 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
