(WWJ) Authorities in Macomb County are searching for a suspect in a reported carjacking very early Wednesday morning.
According to Roseville Deputy Police Chief Donald Glandon, a 30-year old Clinton Township man went to pick up a friend-of-a-friend near 12 Mile Rd. and Gratiot at around 1:30 a.m.
The suspect and the victim were acquainted, but not well known to each other, the chief explained.
"The suspecting wanted a ride. Ultimately the victim gave him a ride over on Melvin and Tranquill," Glandon said. "Once they arrived on Melvin, the suspect produced a handgun and pointed it at the victim. The victim got out of the vehicle."
There was no further altercation, Glandon said, and no one was hurt.
The suspect then fled in the 2011 Chevy Malibu sedan, eventually crashing and rolling over on eastbound I-94 by the 13 Mile Road exit. There were unconfirmed reports that an unknown pickup truck stopped by the scene of the crash and picked the suspect up.
A Michigan State Police K-9 team searched the area, but didn't find anything.
Roseville police believe they can identify the alleged carjacker, but they were still looking for him later Wednesday. The suspect is described as a white male, 34 years old, 5'11' tall and around 220 lbs. He was wearing a blue hoodie and red sweatpants.
Anyone with information is asked to call Roseville Police at 586 447-4483 or Det. Jacob Sidaway at 586- 447-4511.
