ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - A 43-year old woman was arrested after police say she crashed while driving under the influence of inhalants.

Royal Oak police said they were called to the scene at around 10 a.m. Monday after a vehicle hit a pole, in the area of Crooks Rd. and Lexington Ave. in Royal Oak.

The driver wasn't injured, police said, but told officers she was driving southbound on Crooks when she "blacked out."

After officials said they spotted several cans of "Dust-Off" inside the woman's vehicle, she allegedly admitted to inhaling the aerosol from the cans.

The driver, identified as a Royal Oak resident, was arrested on a charge of Operating While Under the Influence of Drugs.

Her name was not immediately released.

Dust-Off — a common brand name refrigerant-based propellant cleaner — comes in a compressed air in a can typically used for blowing dust out of computers and other electronics. Inside the can there is a propellant, the toxic and sometimes deadly chemical difluoroethane.

According to the American Addicaiton Center, huffing canned air can cause an immediate rush of euphoria as well as possible hallucinations and delusions. The effects of huffing may also be paralyzing, interfering with a person's ability to move normally or even move at all. The brief high is also commonly accompanied by dizziness, loss of inhibitions, inability to make sound decisions and slurred speech.
