Police: Dearborn Heights Man Killed Mother And Sister Before Dying In Exchange Of Gunfire With Officers

(WWJ) A shooting in Dearborn Heights claimed the lives of three members of the same family.

Michigan State Police said Dearborn Heights Police responded to a 911 call at Cherry Hill Apartments on Yorkshire St. near Inkster and Cherry Hill around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The suspect, 43, was on a second story balcony pointing “an AR style rifle” at police when they arrived on scene, State Police said.

Michigan State Police tell WWJ Dearborn Heights Police made contact with the man “from a distance” and ordered he drop the weapon.

He then fired a shot at police, State Police said.

After giving the suspect a second warning to drop the weapon; he fired at police again. State Police said Dearborn Heights officers returned fire, striking and killing the suspect.

Dearborn Heights Police entered the apartment where they found two dead women.

The victims were identified as the suspect’s sister, 33, and mother, 67.

Michigan State Police were called to assist with the crime scene.

Detectives are still trying to figure out why the suspect killed his mother and sister. Officers discovered he had two rifles inside his bedroom, including another AR style rifle, with “approximately 30 loaded magazines.”
