DETROIT (WWJ) - The owner of a popular Detroit food truck is recovering in the hospital after a propane explosion over the weekend.
Rashad Torrence, the owner of Detroit's Original Seafood Truck, was going to light the fryer before Smoke On The River at West Riverfront Park when a propane tank on the truck exploded. He suffered second-degree burns over parts of his body, including his face, waist and hands.
"At this point we don't know the extent of the injuries/burns or how long he will stay in the hospital," Rashad Torrence Jr. wrote on a GoFundMe page for his father. "The burns are still changing day by day and not sure what the full status of recovery is yet."
The truck was also damaged in the explosion and now has to be repaired before it can be used again.
"At this time, we are reaching out to the world for prayers, and strength for the family," said Rashad Jr. "My dad is a husband, a father to 6 kids, a son, a brother, an uncle, and a friend. He would do anything for anyone in any circumstance."
A GoFundMe for the Torrence family raised nearly $3,000 in 24 hours. The goal is to raise $20,000, which the family says will go towards medical bills and other expenses as both Torrence and his wife will be out of work during his road to recovery.
