DETROIT (WWJ) - When 20-year-old Kabria Arnold clocked out after her shift at Meijer was over for the night, she had no idea that minutes later she would be dead.

Arnold, a Renaissance High School graduate and a student-athlete at University of Michigan-Dearborn, was gunned down around 11:40 p.m. Sunday and left for dead. Her body was found with multiple gunshot wounds lying on the ground near a truck at Pilgrim and Bentler streets -- just blocks away from the Meijer where she worked, off Grand River Avenue near McNichols Road on Detroit's west side.

Police haven't released any information about the suspect, who fled the scene after the shooting. But Chief James Craig says investigators are following up on leads.

"We're very much in this investigation," he said. "I haven't spoken publicly on it...but we have a strong belief that there's a domestic connection to this case, and so we are aggressively following up on it."

Arnold was a public health major who wanted to become a registered nurse. She was also a pitcher on the U-M Dearborn softball team. She leaves behind her mother, father, three sisters and four nieces. A GoFundMe to help the family with unexpected expenses during the time had raised more than $17,000 by Thursday morning.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Detroit Police Department's Homicide Unit at 313-596-2260. Tips can also be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
