DETROIT (WWJ) - Not everything is shutting down because of the coronavirus: You can still catch a ride on the Detroit People Mover, and it's free.

The Detroit Transportation Corporation says the People Mover will maintain a level of operation, providing the downtown community mobility in completing essential trips.

The new schedule will offer concentrated operating hours for weekday and weekend use:

  • Monday-Thursday: 6:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • Friday: 6:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.
  • Sunday:  2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Fares on the People Mover continue to be free until further notice. The city says crews will maintain additional cleaning and sanitizing schedules to protect customers and staff.

As of Saturday afternoon, the confirmed coronavirus statewide is at 787 cases, with 248 of those cases in Detroit.
