DETROIT (WWJ) -- Police are investigating after celebrity judge Greg Mathis allegedly spit on a valet driver outside a downtown Detroit bar over the weekend.

Detroit police are not confirming the identity of the suspect, but a report from TMZ claims the TV judge was waiting for his vehicle outside of Flood's Bar and Grille -- at the corner of Lafayette and St. Antoine Streets -- when he allegedly became upset with the valet driver because he took a long time. The report says the driver took Mathis' keys to his Rolls Royce while he went to get another customer's car.

The report says Mathis spit on the valet before leaving the scene. Detroit police said a report was taken on the alleged Friday-night incident, but have not released many details.

Mathis, a Detroit native and the star of the syndicated courtroom reality TV show "Judge Mathis," has denied any wrongdoing, according to the TMZ report. It was initially reported the driver took 10-15 minutes to get his car, but Mathis says it was around 40 minutes.

"There was no spitting. There were six witnesses there, if they want to ask them. I was standing there outside of the place with the owner's son," Mathis said in a video posted by TMZ.

He did acknowledge there was a verbal altercation, as he asked the driver why he took his keys for 40 minutes.
