VIDEO: Detroit Police Searching For Liquor Store Bandit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police in Detroit are trying to identify a thief who apparently has an insatiable thirst for breaking into liquor stores on the city's northwest side.

The suspect is wanted in a robbery that happened Monday, Aug. 5 at the Asmar Party Store on 7 Mile Road between the Southfield Freeway and Greenfield Road. Police say the suspect has actually broken into this store twice. He took cigarettes from behind the counter and cash out of the register, stuffing it into his pockets

About a week later, on Sunday, Aug. 11, police say the suspect broke into Universal Liquor and Wine on Grand River Avenue, between the Southfield Freeway and Evergreen Road, and stole cigarettes and multiple bottles of liquor. He has broken into this store three times, according to police, by using a ladder to climb through an opening in the roof.

The suspect is described as an older black man wearing dark clothing and black shoes.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect, knows of his whereabouts or has any other information is asked to contact the Detroit Police Departments 8th Precinct Detective Unit at 313-596-5840. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
