(WWJ) Court is not in session in downtown Detroit, due to a water main break.
On Monday, city officials said crews are working to repair a broken water main not far from Detroit's 36th District Court, which has forced the closure of the building.
The 36-inch line under Madison and Beaubien Streets ruptured Saturday and flooded the basement of the court building. Water has to be shut off in the building, officials said.
"It's a huge problem here in downtown Detroit right now," said WWJ's Vickie Thomas, reporting that the break sent water rushing into the Grand River steam tunnel.
"Now crews with Detroit Thermal have been working around the clock pumping water from their tunnel at four separate locations here in downtown Detroit," Thomas said at the scene, Monday afternoon.
"One of the workers tells me that they were trying to keep the water from getting into their building, which is right next to 36th District Court. A Detroit Thermal worker telling me that had the water gotten into their building, they would've had to shut water off at the Detroit Medical Center, which is one of their customers."
The 36th District Court was closed on Monday due to the incident, and officials said it would remain closed on Tuesday.
