Drink Up! Study Says Coffee Is Good For Your Bones

DETROIT (WWJ) - Coffee lovers have another reason to enjoy that cup of Joe: It's good for your bones.

According to a study in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, people who drink coffee regularly have higher bone mass density.

Researchers say it's due to certain metabolites found in coffee.

"Three metabolites, in particular, were associated with an increase in bone density in the population, and also, a decrease in the risk of fracture," said Dr. Chad Deal, a rheumatologist with Cleveland Clinic.

Coffee may also have other health benefits such as protecting against type 2 diabetes, liver disease and Parkinson's disease, as well as lowing the risk for depression.
