LASALLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ) -- A man is in custody after allegedly causing a crash while driving drunk and fleeing the scene in LaSalle Township early Thursday morning.

Michigan State Police say a 44-year-old woman from Temperance was traveling northbound on Telegraph Road around 5:40 a.m. when a man driving a red Ford C-Max heading west on Stein Road blew through a stop sign and caused a crash.

The woman, who was the lone occupant in her silver Honda CRV, was taken to ProMedica Toledo, but authorities did not release her condition.

The suspected drunk driver fled the scene on foot and was later identified and located. Criminal charges are pending with the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office. The suspect's age and city of residence were not released.

State Police said an additional crash occurred at the scene, as the two vehicles were disabled in the road when a third vehicle heading southbound on Telegraph struck one of them. That driver was uninjured in the crash.

State Police trroopers on scene were assisted by LaSalle Twp. Fire Department, Monroe County Sheriff's Department, and Monroe County Ambulance.
