Elderly Ohio Man Killed, Another Injured In Monroe County Collision

BEDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ) -- An elderly man from Ohio is dead and another Ohio man is hospitalized after a crash in Monroe County Tuesday afternoon.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says a 77-year-old Toledo man was driving his silver 2004 Buick Century eastbound on Sterns Road, just west of Secor Road in Bedford Township, around 2:15 p.m. when he turned left into a private driveway.

Police say the Buck then re-entered the roadway and continued east on Sterns. While traveling east, the Buick crossed the center line and struck a black 2000 Chevrolet S-10 pick-up truck.

The truck, which was being driven by a 38-year-old man from Toledo, was headed westbound at the time of the collision.

The sheriff's office says the 77-year-old man was treated at the scene before he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to Promedica Toledo Hospital and police say he sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Excessive speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash, according to the sheriff's office. It is unknown whether alcohol played a role, however.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the incident and asks anyone who has any information regarding the crash to call 734-240-7456.
