DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit gas station owner is cleaning up the mess some teens made of his business — and it's not the first time.
Terry Bazzi says a group of five or six young suspects routinely ransacks his Citgo store, at 8 Mile Rd. near Southfield Rd,, and he'd fed up.
"It's happening every other day, every other day," he told WWJ's Charlie Langton. "I have reports everywhere, the cops are here all the time. But they make a report: 'Have a nice day!'"
Bazzi said the teens steal food, pour out drinks, knock over shelves and just trash the place.
The same thing has happened about three times a week since November, he said, even on Christmas.
The suspects struck again, he said, at around midnight Monday, despite the fact he's been paying $300 a month for a high definition video camera through Project Green Light to serve as a deterrent.
"I've talked to them," he told Langton. "I mean, enough is enough, but they just don't care. They're getting away with it all the time, you know? Coming in here, get free snacks, cause trouble and they're gone!"
Bazzi, who has owned the gas station for over 20 years, said this kind of criminal activity is bad for business.
"When the neighbors find out about this they don't feel safe coming in here, because they look outside... 'Hey, you've got a Green Light, why are you having so much trouble in here?' So nobody can understand what's going on."
Green Light video feeds to Detroit police, who respond to find that the suspects have already fled the scene. Police say they're still investigating.
Anyone who recongizes the suspects in the video can call Detroit police or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 1-800-SPEAK-UP (1-800-773-2587).
