HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) - City leaders in Highland Park are looking to build a new high school and create an adult education program.
The Highland Park Board of Education on Thursday approved a request for proposals to create a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math-focused high school while also creating an adult learning center.
Qualified public school academy operators with a background in college preparatory high schools are urged to apply.
"The children of Highland Park deserve a high-quality education that prepares them for future success," Alexis Ramsey, board president, said in a statement. "With the revitalization of Barber Preparatory Academy, our PreK-8 elementary school, we have now set our sights on a STEAM-focused high school as well as a re-engagement and adult learning center."
Highland Park hopes the adult education center will accommodate those wishing to obtain their high school diploma or vocational certification training.
The goal is to open the new school and center by the end of this year. Anticipated enrollment in fall 2021 is 500 students.
