Man Accidentally Shot In Wrist At Port Austin Campground

Ambulance

(WWJ)  A Sterling Heights man is recovering from an accidental gunshot to the wrist while at a campground in the Thumb Area.

The Huron County Sheriff says the victim, 49, had just wrapped up raking leaves at Duggan's Campground in Port Austin Friday evening. He walked over to a table with a 24-year-old man.

The younger man leaned over the table. His 9mm handgun started to come loose from its holster. The pair scrambled to stop it from falling out, causing it to discharge, according to police.

The blast blew the victim's watch off his hand.

A Port Austin man also witnessed the incident. He and the younger man administered First Aid to the victim, including applying a tourniquet.

He was taken to Thumb McLaren Hospital via ambulance. He is expected to be okay.
