WARREN (WWJ) - An alleged armed robber is in custody thanks to quick work by Warren police.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Mike Campbell reports a 7-Eleven convenience store on 9 Mile Rd., between Ryan and Mound roads, was robbed at gunpoint at around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Less than two hours later, a suspect was arrested along east 9 Mile, not far from the scene of the crime.

Store clerk Devon Mayer said this was the second time he's been robbed on that overnight shift.

"It's very scary; it's very scary," he told Campbell. "Every night you know something can happen...but it's just a matter of keeping your cool and helping out your regular customers who you know mean well.

"But whenever somebody comes in that you don't really recognize, you're always on edge."

Mayer said he had a bad feeling about the suspect the moment he walked in. Then, he said, the man put a gun on the counter, demanded some cigarettes and all the money in the register.

Mayer complied, and the suspect left.

Police said they were able to recover a weapon, and now they're working to determine if, or how much, money and merchandise was taken during the hold-up.

No injuries were reported.

The name of the man in custody is being withheld pending an arraignment on expected charges.
