(WWJ) A man accused of killing four people in Wayne County's Sumpter Township has been charged with four counts of first degree premeditated murder.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office Wednesday announced the case against 37-year old Raymond Lee Bailey of Kinross, who allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend, Laura Tanner, along with her sister Sarah Tanner of Detroit, and Forrest and Neal Sampson of Van Buren Township.
The bodies were found Saturday afternoon at a home on Martinsville road, south of Belleville.
With a manhunt underway, Bailey turned himself in at the Bay County Sheriff’s Department on Sunday.
Investigators say at the time of the shooting Laura Tanner was having ongoing problems with Bailey, and friend say Bailey had threatened to kill her.
Police said Bailey had allegedly confessed to the killings in phone calls and text messages to several people.
“The allegations in this case are the quintessential example of domestic victimology. As a result, four people are now tragically deceased. We clearly understand the social psychology of the domestic violence victim and we strive mightily to support them. So please, if you are a victim of domestic violence, help is available. Call the First Step 24 Hour domestic violence hotline at: 734-722-6800,” said Prosecutor Kym Worthy, in a statement.
Along with the murder charges, Bailey faces four counts of felony firearm.
Sumpter Township Police said Bailey was arraigned via video in 34th District Court on Wednesday, and ordered held without bond. He was arraigned from a hospital bed because police said he tried to hurt himself.
His next court appearance is scheduled for September 2.
