DETROIT (WWJ) - A 26-year-old man faces a trio of felony charges for an alleged kidnapping and police chase.
Police responded to a call about a parental kidnapping at around 11:40 a.m. April 6, in the 20500 block of James Couzens in Detroit.
The 23-year-old mother reported that her 3-month-old infant's father, Brandon Ryan Walker, grabbed the baby after an argument and drove off; then allegedly demanding money in return for the child. While police were talking with the mom, Walker returned to the home, police said, but when officers approached him he again drove away.
As police chased the suspect, it's alleged he blew through stop signs and disregarded traffic lights before the pursuit was called off "to prevent injury to the child and the community," police said.
A short time later, police said Walker gave the baby back to the mom in the area of 7 Mike Rd. and Oakfield. He then fled eastbound on W. 7 Mile Road, and disappeared.
The child was uninjured.
The suspect eluded capture for several days until his arrest at around 11 a.m. Monday, in the 20000 block of Harper.
Walker was arraigned in 36th District Court Wednesday on the following charges: Kidnapping, Child Abuse - Second Degree and Fleeing Officers - 3rd Degree.
Bond was set at $250,000 cash/surety and Walker's next court date was set for April 22.
