(WWJ) A young man wanted in a deadly shooting during a protest last month in Detroit has been found and arrested by federal agents down south.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has been notified Friday that Tyjon Casaya-Scott Hites of Detroit was placed under arrest in by the U.S. Marshals Service in Monroe, Louisiana.

Hites, 19, is charged in the shooting death of a 22-year-old man as a crowd was gathered downtown to protest the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police; although authorities said an investigation found the slaying had nothing to do with the demonstration itself. “The investigation in this case has confirmed that this homicide was unrelated to the George Floyd protests. The investigation into other aspects of this case continue; we cannot release anything further at this time," Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement.

There was apparently some kind of verbal altercation before shots rang out in the area of Congress and Randolph late on the night of May 29, police said. The crowd largely dispersed after the shooting, and the victim, Javar Harrell of Eastpointe, died at a local hospital.

Hites, who is charged with first degree premeditated murder and felony firearm, is awaiting extradition.

An alleged accomplice, 22-year-old Omani Bryant of Detroit, was already in custody. He is charged with accessory after the fact, and felony firearm.

The prosecutor's office said Friday that an update on the case will be sent out once he is returned to Michigan.
