(WWJ) -- An Oakland County man is behind bars in connection with a 2014 hit-and-run crash that severly injured a teenager.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office says 53-year-old Brent Joseph Addelia was arrested Tuesday and is being held at the Oakland County Jail on one felony count of leaving the scene of a serious injury accident.
Back on Sept. 28, 2014, two teens were riding their bicycles northbound near the intersection of Rochester and Romeo Roads in Oakland Township when they were struck by a gray SUV, according to several witnesses.
The suspect's vehicle fled the scene and the OSCO Crash Reconstruction Unit was called to the scene to begin the investigation. Deputies were able to collect a small amount of evidence from the scene, which included a piece of a foglamp left behind by the suspect’s vehicle, but were never able to identify the suspect or the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Investigators continued to follow leads on registration records and tips they received. Recently, a deputy from the Crash Reconstruction Unit was able to present enough evidence to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office to secure a one count felony warrant for Addelia's arrest. Authorities did not disclose what led to the break in the case or what evidence was presented to obtain the warrant.
Addelia, a resident of Lapeer, was arrested by Deputies on Tuesday and was given a $75,000 cash/surety bond. The felony charge against Addelia carries a punshiment of up to one year in prison.
The victim, now 23, has made a full recovery from the injuries sustained during the 2014 incident.
