(WWJ) Two young men are facing multiple felony charges after an alleged armed robbery, shooting and chase in Romulus.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy on Monday announced the case against 23-year-old Dejon Demarkus-Roland Johnson of Detroit and 23-year-old Andrew Curtis Williams, in connection with the alleged crimes last Friday.
Romulus police officers were called to the area of 9900 Wayne Road at about 4:30 p.m. May 15 about an armed robbery in progress inside a vehicle. Police spotted the vehicle with three men inside and ordered all of them out of the car, but only one of them complied: a 24-year-old Inkster man. He reported that the other two had robbed him at gunpoint.
After the victim got out, authorities said Johnson and Williams took off — Johnson driving the car directly at a police officer, who had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit.
The vehicle continued at a high rate of speed, authorities say, before crashing into a carport a few blocks away. When the suspects got out of the vehicle, it's alleged that Johnson pulled a gun and fired two shots at a police officer.
Johnson has been charged with assault with intent to murder, armed robbery, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, fleeing and eluding - third degree, carrying a concealed weapon, two counts of felonious assault and five counts of felony firearm. Williams has been charged with armed robbery, carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm.
In addition, both men are charged with Violation of Executive Order 10.33 — Michigan's stay-home order — which is a 90-day misdemeanor with a $500 fine.
Johnson and Williams were arraigned May 17 before Judge Brian Oakley in 34th District Court, and ordered held on a $1 million bond apiece.
The pair will be back in court for a probable cause conference scheduled for May 27.
