DETROIT (WWJ) - There's some snowflakes falling on this spring day in metro Detroit.
And while it won't be too much, forecasters are warnied it would come on quick, and could make for slick and dangerous conditions on roads and freeways.
"It's kind of incredible," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore. "But this is part of the problem: it was cleared out overnight, temperatures got cold into the 20s, and now that snow is streaking eastward."
"It is bad over on the west side of the state," DeVore said, speaking live on WWJ mid-morning, "and it's gonna come right across I-94, I-96 right into metro Detroit over the next couple of hours."
AccuWeather is calling for a quick coating to maybe about an inch of accumulation in the metro Detroit area.
The biggest concern, DeVore said, is slick conditions on the roads. Low visibility may also be a factor, so be careful if you're driving.
"I'm hoping, crossing all fingers and saying a little prayer it's not as bad as what we've seen in Chicago, with at least a 50-car pileup out there," DeVore said. "But remember, even though the ground's been a little warm, there's still some room here with these temperatures this morning to get some icy conditions quickly."
The snow will taper off in the early afternoon, as temperatures get up into the 40s. But DeVore said it looks like another round of Spring snow is on the way Thursday night into Friday morning, before a mild and partly sunny Saturday.
