(WWJ) A Detroit-area dog rescue is offering a $500 reward for information in two cases of abandoned dogs.  Friends for Animals of metro Detroit says a small mixed-breed male dog was dropped off at Tireman and Littleman in Detroit on Wednesday. Someone in a blue car stopped, according to the witness, put the dog outside the car and just drove away.

The dog, believed to be around a year old, began to chase after the car the witness said. Once the finder was able to catch the dog, she noticed he had a red ribbon around his neck that said “Free Dog Biggy.” He is now in the care of FAMD, and the shelter has named him "Professor Snuggles."

In the second case the same day, FAMD says a 7-week-old male dachshund mix (not pictured) was abandoned in the back seat of a taxi cab. The driver realized the previous passenger had left the tiny puppy, and called Dearborn animal control who brought him to the shelter. Over 24 hours later, no one has inquired about the puppy.

The little guy, who's been nicknamed "Paczki," will be placed in a foster home until he is ready to be adopted.

Metro Detroiters are reminded that abandonment of a pet is a misdemeanor, punishable by up to a $500 fine and 30 days in jail. "Abandoning your pet is NEVER the correct option. If you are having difficulty caring for your pet, please contact the shelter that serves your city, or a local rescue for assistance," FAMD said.

Anyone with any information on either of these cases is asked to call the rescue at 313-943-2697.
