(WWJ) A Roseville man has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a Warren man in Eastpointe.
Maher Zuhairi, 25, was arraigned Friday in 28th District Court, authorities announced Monday, on once count each of second degree murder and using a firearm in commission of a felony.
At around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, Eastpointe police responded to a call about gunfire at the Speedway gas station on 10 Mile Rd. near Hayes.
Police said a 21-year-old man from Warren was killed, but they have not released his name. No additional injuries were reported.
Following an investigation, officers arrested Zuhairi as well as a 30-year-old man in connection with the crime. It's not clear at this time if the other suspect, also from Roseville, may yet face charges in the case.
While authorities have not publicly discussed a motive for the slaying, police said they believe they know why the shooting occurred, and that it was not related to wearing or not wearing a face mask, which was earlier reported.
Police said the motive will be discussed at a later date.
Bond for Zuhairi was set at $500,000. As of midday Monday, he remained lodged in the Macomb County Jail awaiting his next court appearance.
