(WWJ) A scholarship fund has been set up in honor of a University of Michigan student killed in a freeway crash last week.
The Emily Victoria Solek Memorial Scholarship Fund will be used to help students from Stoney Creek High School in Rochester Hills pursue a college education.
Solek, who had just turned 21, died after her car was rear-ended by a semi truck on eastbound M-14, near Sheldon Road n Plymouth Township, last Friday. State Police said the truck driver didn't see that traffic had slowed down and was stopped.
Qualifications for the scholarship money will be based on character, academic achievement and financial need. As of Friday, the fund had raised nearly $190,000 by more than 3,200 people in just four days.

According to an obituary, Solek graduated from Stoney Creek class of 2017 and excelled in sports, particularly soccer and basketball. She was a student at The Ross Business School at U of M, and will be missed, among many other family members, by her three sisters.
A friend wrote on Facebook: "A beautiful girl Emily was, both inside and out. Her warm smile, huge heart and wonderful personality, magnetic. My heart truly aches for your loss."
