(WWJ) A suspect accused of gunning down three people and injuring a fourth at a Pontiac apartment complex has been arraigned on a long list of charges, including three counts of first-degree murder.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department says Kenneth Clay, 32, opened fire on the four men while they were on the porch of Clay’s apartment, instead of their own, on Wednesday at the Carriage Circle Apartment Complex on Circle Dr. near Opdyke and Auburn Ave.
Deputies arrived around 9:10 pm to find one of the men already dead on the front porch. The other three victims were found inside the house, and on the front lawn. They were taken to the hospital, where two of them passed away shortly after arriving.
The victims have been identified as Kendrick Lanehart, 39; Dominique Williams, 28; and Montray Morris, 29.
A fourth victim, 25, is in serious condition.
Interviews with witnesses and the survivor revealed the murder was a “result of an ongoing dispute with neighbors and a previous assault…in 2014 between the victims and the responsible;” according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department.
Investigators tell WWJ Clay turned himself into deputies at the Pontiac Substation later the same night while the Forensics Team and the Oakland County Medical Examiner were still actively investigating the crime scene.
He was taken into custody and put up at the Oakland County Jail.
Deputies recovered the weapon used in the shooting on Whitmore, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department.
Clay had previously been charged with driving on a suspended license in 2013 and carrying a concealed weapon in 2014.
He was arraigned on ten separate charges including three counts of first-degree murder, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and assault with intent to murder.
If found guilty, he faces life in prison.
He is being held without bond. He is due back in court on September 8.
