Suspects Sought For Stealing Vintage Schwinn Bike In Detroit [VIDEO]

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit police are asking for the public's help in tracking down a woman's vintage bike that she has owned for nearly 50 years.

Authorities say they are searching for three suspects who stole the vintage blue ladies' Schwinn Debutante Classic Cruiser bicycle over the weekend. Around 1 a.m. Saturday, the suspects were spotted by surveillance cameras walking onto the property near the Detroit Medical Center in the 300 block of Mack Avenue and using a hand-held tool to disconnect the locked bike from a rack near the main entrance of the building.

The suspects are then seen traveling eastbound on Mack towards the I-75/Chrysler Expressway.

The 57-year-old woman who owns the bike said her parents bought her the bicycle when she was an eight years old, according to police. The woman says she often uses the bike as her main source of transportation, along with city transportation, to commute from her west-side home to her place of work in Midtown Detroit. Similar vintage Schwinn bikes can be valued at more than $1,000.

One suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5-foot-7, wearing an all-black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and dark red gym shoes with a white sole. Another black male suspect is described as about 5-foot-6, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with black shorts with a white strip down the leg and black and white gym shoes with white laces. The third suspect, also a black male, is approximately 5-foot-6, wearing a black and gold hooded sweater, gray or black shorts, with black and white gym shoes.

Police are asking anyone who recognizes the suspects, knows of their whereabouts or otherwise has any information about the bike theft to contact the Detroit Police Department at 313-596-1340 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
