DETROIT (WWJ) -- Two Detroit Public Schools Community District employees have died from complications of COVID-19, according to Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti.
The two employees were from different schools, though Vitti did not disclose which schools or whether they were teachers.
Vitti also says three parents from three different schools died of coronavirus Monday.
"One of the hardest days yet. All to this awful virus. My heart is in pain for their families and our district and school families," Vitti tweeted.
The news comes as officials with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced the largest single-day increase in the number of cases, with more than 1,000 positive tests pushing the total to just under 6,500. The death toll stands at 184.
