(WWJ) A northern Oakland County man has died after authorities say he was accidentally run over by a mini van.
The man was lying in the street at the time, although it's not yet clear why as the investigation continues.
The accident happened Wednesday night in the 400 block of Kirkwood Drive in Oxford Township.
According to investigators with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, a 45-year-old Oxford woman backed out of her driveway in her 2008 Town and Country at around 8:15 p.m., and was headed east on Kirkwood, when she struck the 61-year-old victim.
Witnesses said they saw the man, also an Oxford resident, lying in the roadway before the woman started backing out.
While family members told deputies the man may have suffered a medical condition before he was hit, investigators believe "alcohol may have been a factor on the part of the victim," according to the sheriff's report.
Paramedics tried life-saving measures, but the man died at the scene. His name has not been released.
Autopsy results are pending.
No one else was hurt.
