PONTIAC, Mich. (WWJ) -- A steady stream of people paid their respects Tuesday for long time Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson at the building named in his honor.

"I want all the stops pulled out for him because he gave everything to this county and the people. I just want him to be recognized for that and be honored for that," she said.

Family members donned purple ribbons with a pin donning "LBP."

Patterson's son, Dr. Dayne Rogers, says he often hears people say his father is bigger than life.

"Brooks Patterson is bigger than life," he agreed. "He's jovial, he's funny, he's smart. I always say he's the smartest man I ever knew."

The public will have more time to pay respects to Patterson next week, with planned visitations on Wednesday, Aug. 14. and Thursday, Aug. 15 at Woodside Bible Church in Troy. Wednesday's visitation runs 3-8 p.m., and Thursday's visitation is from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., ahead of his funeral, scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the church.
