CHESTERFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - One person was arrested following a police chase Friday through Macomb County.
It began at around 4:30 p.m., after Macomb County Sheriff's deputies responded to call about a fight at the YMCA on N. River Road in Mount Clemens. A man there reported he'd been stabbed in the leg, officials said, and the suspect fled in a black Chevy Malibu.
Deputies chased the suspect vehicle along eastbound I-94 where they were joined by Michigan State Police troopers.
The pursuit continued until troopers used stop sticks at 23 Mile Road at I-94, flattening the suspect's tires and ending the pursuit with a crash.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was taken to the Macomb County Jail to await expected charges.
As a result of the incident, westbound 23 Mile Road was blocked at I-94 in Chesterfield Twp., tying up traffic during the afternoon rush. Tipsters said the westbound I-94 exit ramp to 23 Mile was also closed.
Tipster Ann, who called WWJ Newsradio 950 from near the crash site, described the scene.
"There is an SUV Michigan State trooper vehicle that's smashed with its wheel out and sideways," she said. "There's a Macomb County Sheriff's car that's smashed, and there's a black Chevy Malibu passenger vehicle that's smashed, too."
The stabbing victim was taken to a local hospital for treatement of non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation is ongoing.
