Suspects Steal Yorkie From Special Needs Teen Walking Dogs In Farmington Hills

FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) - Police in Farmington Hills are searching for a group of suspects who stole a therapy dog from a special needs teenager who was walking his dogs in a subdivision. 

Police say the incident happened around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at Lochmoor and Queensboro streets, in a neighborhood along Middlebelt Road between Northwestern Highway and 14 Mile Road.


The 17-year-old victim told police he was walking his two dogs when two or three suspects exited a passing vehicle, grabbed the animals and tried to drive away. The victim was able to retrieve one dog and held onto the fleeing vehicle in an attempt to retrieve the other, a 1-year-old Maltese/Yorkie mix named Hennessy. He was dragged for a short distance before letting go, unable to get Hennessy back, and the vehicle fled the scene. 

The suspects are described as black males in their teens or early 20s. The driver of the vehicle is described as a black female in her teens or early 20s. The vehicle is described as a silver sub-compact possibly a Chevy, Aveo or Spark.

Hennessy is described as 5-pounds with brown hair. 

Detectives are actively investigating this report and officers will be conducting increased patrols in the area.
