Taylor Mayor To Deliver State Of City Address Days After FBI Raid

TAYLOR (WWJ) - The mayor of Taylor is scheduled to deliver the State of the City address Thursday, two days after his office and home were raided by the FBI.

Mayor Rick Sollars is expected to highlights accomplishments over the past year and also talk about the future goals during the speech at the Lakes of Taylor golf course. It's unclear if he plans to address the raid.

The FBI confirmed it executed search warrants at a vacation home owned by Sollars in Cement City, which is south of Jackson, saying the investigation is in regards to public corruption.

Sollars met with the media outside the home after the raid, saying he didn't see the raid coming but is cooperating with authorities.

FBI Detroit Special Agent in Charge Timothy Slater said that, because this remains an open investigation, they won't be discussing what led to the raids.

"I understand the public will have questions about the specific allegations and who may be involved. And while I recognize the public's right to know what the FBI is doing on its behalf, we have a responsibility to protect the integrity of our investigation and, as importantly, we have a responsibility to protect the rights of individuals who have not been charged with any crimes," Slater said.
