DETROIT (WWJ) -- Thousands of metro Detroiters turned out to Eastern Market on Sunday for the annual tradition of Flower Day.

Vendors all throughout the market were offering deals on flowers and plants to help customers plant a perfect, colorful garden.

Grace Hooker, who has been going to Flower Day for years, told WWJ's Ingrid Kelley it's a day she always looks forward to.

"It's a fun day, I call it family day. People come down here at 6:30 in the morning ready for their flowers," Hooker said."

"I love flower day, I love all the people, I love all the flowers, I love the atmosphere, the excitement, the energy that's here," she said.

Even those working the event took the time to enjoy the tradition.

"All the beautiful flowers, all the colors, it just makes you feel happy. Happy to be alive," employee Martez Torrance said.
