REDFORD TWP. (WWJ) - Michigan State Police say they've arrested a man caught with an "illegal gun" on I-96.

At around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, a trooper with the MSP Metro South Trooper made a traffic stop for a speeding violation in the area of I-96 and Inkster Rd. in Redford Twp. When asked if any guns were located in the car, police said the passenger stated there was a gun in a backpack in the backseat.

An unregistered firearm, pictured above, was recovered and the 23-year-old male passenger was placed under arrest for carrying a concealed weapon, police said. No injuries were reported.

Charges are pending a review of the case by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

Further details, including the man's name and hometown, were not immediately released.
