DETROIT (WWJ) -- The family of a beloved DJ in Southwest Detroit who was killed this spring is begging for answers.

Pedro Gonzalez, known as DJ Solo G, fell in love with music at an early age and made DJ'ing his life's work. But it wasn't just playing music that made him popular, his friends and family say -- the 45-year-old was well known in the Southwest Detroit Community for being a father, a youth mentor and frequently offering his DJ services for free at local parties, fundraisers, church functions and other events.

On May 19 Gonzalez was gunned down while sitting and talking to two others inside Dino's Cafe, located at the corner of Waterman and Bostwick Streets on Detroit's southwest side.

Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for any tips that lead to an arrest in this case. Police do not have a description of any suspects.

His family spoke Tuesday, begging for the public's help in finding justice.

"I would hope and pray that they would speak up and say something. Because this was so unfortunate," his mother, Yolanda Salazar, said as she fought back tears. "He's going to be missed. He's going to be missed by a lot of people. He helped a lot of people."

His cousin Jose says just this past Christmas, Gonzalez adopted two families he didn't know and bought them all presents.

"A lot of gifts for someone he didn't even know," he said.

Gonzalez's youngest son, 13-year-old Julian, is still grieving and wants anyone who knows anything about the shooting to picture themselves in his family's situation.

"Just imagine being in our shoes. And imagine losing a family member that close and knowing that the rest of your life, you're not going to see them again," Julian Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez's family believes he was not the target of the shooting. He was the only one struck by gunfire that night.

Anyone who has any information about the shooting is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. All tipsters will remain 100% anonymous. Tips can also be submitted on the Crime Stoppers website.

Crime Stoppers pays all rewards when an arrest is made and does not wait for a conviction.
