BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ) -- A Oakland County woman is facing retail fraud charges after trying to shoplift with the help of her daughter.

Bloomfield Township police say they were called to the Ulta beauty store located at 2161 Telegraph Road on June 3. The store manager told police a Hispanic woman and her young daughter had stolen several items, totaling about $400.

Surveillance video captured the woman unzipping the child's backpack and putting the items inside.

Bloomfield Township police were able to identify the suspect as 26-year-old Amela Cecilia Lomeli of Pontiac. When interviewed, the woman admitted to stealing the items.

Lomeli turned herself in to police on July 8 and she was arraigned on 3rd degree retail fraud charges in the 48th District Court. She was given a $2,500 personal bond. She is due back in court on Aug. 6.
