LAKE MICHIGAN (WWJ/AP) - Authorities are issuing a new warning when it comes to boating in Lake Michigan after one person was killed near the Chicago shoreline.
A sailboat capsized in Lake Michigan at about 2 a.m. Thursday along North Lake Shore Drive near Lincoln Park and a 28-year-old woman was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital. A man and another woman from the boat were rescued and are in good condition.
Due to high water in Lake Michigan, authorities say many potential hazards that usually are exposed, such as jetties, are currently covered in water.
Meantime, in west Michigan, there's a high swim risk along Lake Michigan between St. Joseph and Manistee. Forecasters say three to six foot waves will create dangerous swimming conditions.

Strong currents can sweep swimmers out into deeper water or prevent them from keeping their feet on the bottom, making it difficult to return to shore. People visiting beaches in the alert region should stay out of the water.
