(WWJ) What appears to be a drive-by shooting erupted on a quiet street in suburban Ferndale at 2:15 a.m. Thursday and left a 19-year-old woman who was sleeping in her bed in the hospital.
Ferndale Dispatch received several 911 calls reporting numerous shots had been fired in the 300 block of West Bennett. All available scout cars were dispatched to the area and upon arrival, officers discovered a 19-year-old Ferndale woman who had been shot several times.
Ferndale Fire Rescue also responded to the scene and transported the young woman to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital where she is being treated for her injuries. Her condition is unknown at this time.
Initial investigation indicates the suspect fired several shots into the home, striking the victim multiple times as she slept.
At this time, police say they do not have a suspect or vehicle description.
If you're shocked by a drive-by in an Oakland County suburb, you're not alone. Police say it's not the kind of thing they expect either.
"This is a good street, we don't have any particular problems on this street whatsoever," Sgt. Baron Brown of the Ferndale PD told WWJ 950.
Neighbors who may have observed any suspicious activity or who have home camera systems are encouraged to review any footage that may have been captured from 2:00 to 2:15 a.m. and call Ferndale at 248-541-3650 with any information.
